Blood Diamond (DVD Review)

Blood Diamond is a movie with a strong message about diamond trafficking in Africa. In order to deliver this message effectively, every aspect in this movie needs to be convincing. This criterion, the moviemakers, masterly achieve. The passion and dedication of everyone working on this movie contributes to this result. From the performance by the actors, down to the look and feel of the sets and extras; everything is woven together to say TIA – this is Africa. There are two stories being told in parallel. The one is of Danny Archer (Leanardo DiCaprio) looking for a significantly big diamond and of Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounson) looking for his son. Both of them has to make their way past treacherous situations to get what they want and ultimately discover what is valuable in life.

Setup

Spoken Languages include English and Italiano. The subtitles has one more language namely Islenska.

Special Features

Commentary by director Edward Zwick will be testimony to the professionalism of everyone involved.

It is disappointing that there are not more features than the Commentary and the Theatrical Trailer. After the commentary it is disappointing not to see any behind the scenes footage and featurettes about the African countries that were visited in the making of the movie.

Despite the shortcomings of the Special Features, the story is so powerful that Blood Diamond, the DVD, scores 9/10.
